| Bio: | ![]() DOMAINS OF POWER: None CURRENT STATE OF POWER: Pelops, being a mortal both in this life and his first, has no real power. But he is gifted at handling horses, and racing. NAME & AGE: Nicodemus Aiolos, 22 APPEARANCE: Nicodemus -- he prefers Nick -- has always had the problem of looking like a high schooler. He used this to his advantage at first while in middle school, but it became more of a disadvantage during his his high school years and even more so as an adult. He stands at a simple 5' 9", and will never have problems finding clothes big enough for him (thank heavens, because he's a shopaholic). His ruddy blond hair is almost never brushed -- after all, when you spend just about all your free time on a galloping horse or fast car, why bother with that? His clothes seem to have about the same appearance, often being a bit rumpled or wrinkled, but they're often expensive enough to still make him look good. One thing of interest as well: A large scar-like line, slightly sickle-shaped, runs along his left shoulder. His father claims it wasn't there when he was first born, but appeared hours afterwards. It's since been labeled a birthmark, and has bothered Nick little. PAST HISTORY: In his first life, Pelops was the treasured son of the mortal son of Zeus, Tantalus, and the mysterious goddess Dione. He was beautiful and talented in almost everything he did, and was a pleasure to his family. But it was his downfall as well -- Tantalus was making a banquet for the gods and needed a main course. What better way to show his devotion to them than to offer them his first-born son as sacrifice? So he attacked the boy and hacked him to bits, throwing him into a pot. Of course the gods realized immediately what had happened, all but for Demeter, who in her grief over losing Persephone took the left shoulder and ate it. Pelops was reassembled by the gods together, with Hephaestus making him an ivory shoulder in place of the one Demeter had consumed (she apologized later). And overcome by the boy's beauty, and perhaps partly from pity at the boy's shattered home life, Poseidon took Pelops as his own. The prince eagerly accepted. From the sea god, he learned everything there was about chariot-racing and the care of equines, and was given ambrosia to make him immortal and youthful. He was also a servant to the other gods, serving as a cupbearer in return for their rebuilding him. Some time later, food was stolen from Olympus, then ambrosia, and even the golden dog who'd watched over Zeus as an infant Fingers went flying until it was realized that none other than mortals were eating the divine food of the gods, and the person who'd given it to them was none other than Tantalus. Zeus' rage towards his son was without pity -- he threw the former king into Tartarus, to always stand in water under a fruit tree, but to never have a drink or a bite to eat. His rage extended to Pelops, whom he suspected of helping Tantalus with the thefts. The boy was ripped from the arms of his lover and thrown back among the mortals. Pelops wandered along the rim of Olympus, crying out for Poseidon, but was met only with silence. He finally realized he'd been abandoned and left. Without the ambrosia and immortal food, he grew to a man and came to the kingdom of King Oenomaus. The moment he laid eyes on Hippodamia, he was in love. But he was aware of the dangers that losing the race to win her hand would bring, so he went to the beach and called upon his former lover again. In exchange for a single night with the god, he got a pair of winged horses. And to furtherly assure his victory, he tricked the king's charioteer, Myrtilus, to break Oenomaus' chariot in return for a night with his future wife. Instead, Pelops killed him, and as the son of Hermes died, he cursed the entire house of Atreus (not that it wasn't already cursed, apparently...). Pelops became king, but with a price -- his elder sons killed his youngest, his favorite, and when they were banished, Hippodamia hung herself. The curse followed his family all the way down to his great-grandchildren before being cured. by then, Pelops was long dead. His time spent in Hades was, as expected, boring and far too long for his tastes. He wasn't bad enough to share Tartarus with his father, but his murder kept him from acheiving Elysium. Instead he took to wandering the Underworld alone. Word can also spread quickly when you've got nothing but eternity together. He heard about a young boy by the name of Orpheus, and how he'd actually descended into the world of death, and nearly taken a soul out of it. The act inspired Pelops, even though it had ended in tragedy -- if a silly little dead girl could exit Hades, why couldn't he? In earnest, he began to search for the place where Orpheus had exited Hades. But the Underworld is a big place... It took him over a thousand years. When he finally emerged, he didn't quite get the results he desired. He was little more than a ghost, invisible to all and without any way to communicate. He continued to wander the country he'd once known like the back of his hand, suddenly strange and new with horse-less chariots and plays inside tiny boxes. It wasn't until 1985 that he got his chance; he'd been watching a family out of boredom, and learned that a baby had died after birth not an hour before, the mother following after it. It was a risky move, but he took it, and shoved his soul into the infant. Needless to say, the midwife was startled when the baby not only moved but began to cry. But Pelops' rebirth wasn't all he thought it'd be -- while he managed to put life back into the dead body, his memories were too expansive and old for the new brain. The majority were deleted and lost forever, the rest being suppressed. Nicodemus was deemed a miracle, a blessing to have him live even when his mother had died. His father, a famous horse breeder who boasted to be descended from Greek kings and Roman emperors, doted on his only child to the point of spoiling him rotten. He made it his mission to make Nick a master in the art of horses and racing them, and was further delighted to see that the boy had natural talent with them. They responded kindly to him, as if they'd known him forever. Nick grew up sheltered, so when he dreamed of his father trying to kill him or being hurled off mountains, he was deeply disturbed but never thought of trying to interpret them. After all, he had better things to focus on. When he was sixteen, his father moved their operation from Athens to Miami, Florida. The official story was never told. All Nicodemus knows is that his father did it for medical and money-related reasons. He works as a trainer for his father during the day, and at night descends upon the dance scene around the city. PERSONALITY: Nick is... well, the spoiled kid. He's privileged and aware of it, and it can be his shortcoming when dealing with a real-life situation, and comes off as arrogant and uncaring to many at first. But he's a kindly person who looks out for the weaker, obedient to his elders to a fault, if a little stuffed up sometimes. He's a bit of a rebel, loving to push the envelope, but not in the dangerous sort -- he keeps a level head in most situations. But he's also got a temper. The sort where he lets everything build up to the point of implosion, and he goes slightly bloodthirsty before calming down. Otherwise, he's a calm young man with not much to say (or knows enough to keep his mouth shut). PERSONAL LIKES & DISLIKES: Likes include horses, fast cars, motorcycles, new clothes, the ocean, his rather impressive collection of shoes, exercising, swimming, pop music, boats, parties, his smokes, video games, wine, being upper-class. Dislikes include heights, horror flicks, cats, speed limits, old cars, country music, small children, mini-ponies, long boring books, reality TV, eagles. Random links: House | |||||||||
